Josh Vasquez

Josh Vasquez, (b. 1992, Los Angeles) is  a multi-disciplinary artist whose work dissects American mythologies through the investigation of advertising and propaganda. His recent works explore the imagery of the American West. Expanding on the ideas of Manifest Destiny and American exceptionalism, Vasquez examines the sacrifices that they demand. In the process of rapidly reproducing well-known images into large-scale sketches on paper, the artist captures the dissonance created by the propaganda of American idealism and its lived reality.

Born and raised in Pico Union in a Salvadorian American family, Josh earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on drawing and painting from the California State University of Long Beach in 2017. He has exhibited work at Residency Gallery, The Torrance Art Museum, Tlaloc Studios, MUZEO, Stay Gallery, and Munzón Gallery. He is currently a Masters of Fine Art in Painting and Printmaking candidate at Yale University.
